Editorial standards
Useful reporting begins with visible rules.
These standards describe the newsroom we are building. They apply to reporting, briefs, startup spotlights, analysis, and corrections.
Accuracy before speed
We separate what is confirmed from what is inferred, identify the primary source when available, and do not turn a claim into a fact by repeating it.
Context over promotion
A funding announcement, product launch, or founder claim becomes a story only when we can explain why it matters. Marketing language is attributed, not adopted as our voice.
Disclosure
Material sponsorships, affiliate relationships, supplied products, investments, and conflicts are disclosed close to the relevant work. Paid placement will not be presented as independent reporting.
Artificial intelligence
Automation may assist research, transcription, organization, or editing. A human editor remains responsible for the published claim, source, framing, and correction. We do not publish an unreviewed model output as reporting.
Attribution and sourcing
We credit original reporting and link to primary material when it is safe and available. Anonymous sourcing, if used, requires a clear public-interest reason and independent corroboration.
Corrections
Substantive errors are corrected clearly rather than silently. Send a specific correction request and supporting source to corrections@siftandsignal.com.
