What the public site receives
Our hosting and security providers process ordinary request data such as IP address, device and browser information, requested pages, and timestamps to deliver and protect the site. We use Vercel Web Analytics on public pages to understand page views, referral sources, approximate countries, devices, and selected navigation and subscription-request actions. Our event properties exclude email addresses and form contents, and we remove query strings and fragments from reported page URLs. We do not load the collector on our private editorial desk or signed email-management pages. Vercel processes this measurement data as our hosting and analytics provider. We do not use advertising pixels, session replay, or analytics cookies.
Measurement is approximate: blockers and missing referral information can prevent attribution. To turn off our analytics for this browser tab, open this opt-out link. A tab-local storage flag remembers that choice; this link turns measurement back on. No reader identity is stored in that flag.
Pulse email
When you submit the Pulse form, we use your email address, consent source, selected email frequency, and request time to send a confirmation link. We also record when your frequency preference changes. You are not subscribed until you confirm. Resend processes outbound delivery; Cloudflare handles inbound mail routing.
Pending subscription data expires after seven days. Confirmation links expire after 48 hours. Delivery, provider-mapping, and webhook records are retained for up to 400 days so we can investigate delivery and enforce suppression. Active, unsubscribed, and suppressed status records are retained without a routine expiry so a prior opt-out, bounce, or complaint is not silently forgotten. The stored subscriber identifier is pseudonymous and is not treated as anonymous data. Plain email addresses are removed from our subscriber record after unsubscribe or provider suppression.
Publishing connections
Private owner tools may connect Sift & Signal to publishing platforms. Their authorization data is encrypted and used only for the requested owner-operated publishing workflow. Those tools are not public reader accounts.
Your choices
New Pulse editions include a link to choose Weekly only (Saturday) or Daily + Weekly (weekdays plus Saturday). Existing subscribers remain Weekly only unless they explicitly change their preference. Every Pulse message will include an unsubscribe mechanism. To ask about access, correction, or deletion of subscription data, email hello@siftandsignal.com. Some limited suppression or consent-history data may need to remain so an opt-out is not reversed. Correction requests about published work belong at corrections@siftandsignal.com.
